Frequently Asked Questions
How effective are hybrid home treatment sessions with young children?
With hybrid home treatment, the child always receives in-person intervention directly from their parent while the therapist watches through a laptop and coaches the parent in the play and behavior therapy skills through an earpiece.
Families save time and money on driving and child care expenses for siblings during appointments.
Most importantly, research has shown that the online format of PCIT can be more effective by certain measures than in-person treatment.
What if I already requested an appointment but would like another day or time?
Complete the Contact Form. It will provide instructions on how to request different dates and times.
Do parents need to attend sessions?
Parents attend every session and children attend most (unless you select parent-only sessions). This is because all of our services empower parents with a set of play therapy and behavior therapy skills so they can become their child’s therapeutic specialist.

Why Hamilton Family Counseling?
Our Director, DC Hamilton, LMFT, is a Certified PCIT International therapist, has trained therapists with UC Davis Children’s Hospital in the PC-CARE parenting protocol and is currently co-developing a new child behavior modification protocol for physicians. All our services are either directly provided by or supervised by our Director. (CA Lic. No. 101375; OR Lic. No. T2168)
We also provide FREE videos and handouts between sessions so families can complete treatment in as few sessions as possible and have a resource that can be used as a refresher later.
Why PCIT?
PCIT can change a child's entire life trajectory. That's because disruptive behaviors in childhood have been linked to higher rates of high school dropout, substance abuse, unemployment, and even incarceration. Many child mental health experts consider PCIT to be the gold standard in treating child disruptive behaviors because, after hundreds of studies and over 40 years of research, nothing is more effective than completing PCIT.
PCIT specifically addresses big emotions and challenging behaviors that arise for a variety of reasons. Click the links to below to learn more about how PCIT can help with each issue listed.
